Progress from shadowing the team to delivering parts of a class with the instructor to finally having the confidence and skills to deliver a full class.

• Complete a formal online level 2 fitness instructor course

• Take first aid training
Learn the administration tasks expected of an instructor.

• Have the full support from our team of physiotherapist, fitness instructors and admin assistants.

Gain confidence in speaking to and organising groups of people

Learn more about living a healthy, active life and how you can contribute to the lives of our older clients.

Training to be a level 2 fitness instructor means you will have a recognised qualification. In the future, you could work in a gym, train to be a personal trainer, or run your own fitness business which could all be worked around your lifestyle, whether that is a family, another job, a hobby, or perhaps caring for a partner.

You may be worried about taking an online training course. The good news is we are here to help you. We will offer you full support so that you get through it. One way we will do this is by giving you the opportunity to help us deliver weekly exercise classes to older people. Another is being there to answer your questions while working through the course. Finally, if you don't have access to a computer, you can sit in our office and use ours.

Usually, training to be an instructor costs a significant amount of money. The brilliant thing is that TMBC and SDC are supporting us with a grant, funded by the UK Government, to enable people to get into employment. This means that not only is the training free, but we will pay you to do it!

The training programme requires you to work at least 14 hours a week. The hours can be fairly flexible, but class times are, of course, fixed!

At the end of the training, which can take up to 6 months, you will be a fully qualified L2 fitness instructor with practical experience delivering exercise classes to older people. We hope you will have grown in confidence and really enjoy delivering exercise classes to our clients.

All being well there should be a part-time job available for you to continue working as part of our team, running our classes with supervision from our physiotherapist and support from our fitness instructors.

Who are we?

We are a not-for-profit exercise business devoted to helping people stay active and independent regardless of their medical conditions or their age.

This does not mean we are looking for volunteers! It does mean that any money we make over and above our team's wages and the expense of running a business is put back into the business.

Keep Phytt runs weekly exercise classes for an older age group. We encourage our clients to sit and stand through the hour-long session and use equipment to become stronger, work on their balance, and generally get fitter so they can be more active and stay independent. Research has shown that everyone can benefit from exercise -it just needs to be the right sort of exercise.

Our clients know they benefit from attending our classes. It helps them feel better, walk further, climb the stairs more easily and meet friendly people like themselves.

We are interested in keeping our clients' bodies flexible and strong, keeping their hearts and lungs working well and working with them to stay safe and independent into their older age.

They like to exercise, talk, and have fun in the classes. We don't use music, so you don't need to worry about your coordination and rhythm!

If you are looking for a rewarding role that allows you to make a positive difference in the lives of others and you like what you have seen here then we encourage you to leave us your details and book a 15 minute discovery call with us. This is to help you decide if this is the right thing for you and help us confirm that you meet the funding conditions. (We will call you at the allotted time).

If you want to know more about who we are and what we do please read on :

Keep Phytt started because older people were finding it difficult to find a local exercise class that suited them. As a physiotherapist I frequently saw people who had been advised by the doctor or the nurse to exercise but nothing worked for them. They wanted
a class with friendly faces, like-minded people, people who had similar difficulties to them, people who had painful joints, people who struggled to get on and off the floor, people who didn't see or hear very well.

Local instructors were happy to have them in their classes but the older people didn't feel comfortable in the class, they felt like they were a bit of a special case, a bit of a nuisance and that they held the rest of the class back.

At Keep Phytt we understand how the body and mind changes with age. We see those changes in our clients and respect their difficulties and value their willingness to try to make a difference. We believe that everybody who wants to, should be able to live a full and active life doing the things that they enjoy for the rest of their lives.

Our role is to help them, despite the changes they may experience in their physical health, to stay independent, strong and safe. We want everyone’s Gran and Grandad to be able to join in family activities whether that involves playing on the floor with the kids, eating out
or dancing the night away!

Our founder, Carole, has been teaching individuals how to manage pain and improve movement for over thirty-five years as a physiotherapist.
She started exercise classes in Borough Green, Kent in 2017 and, in the last 18 months, the Keep Phytt business has grown rapidly with classes in village halls and community centres from Tonbridge to New Ash Green and from Sevenoaks to Kings Hill.

The dream of having a class available within 10 minutes of anyone in the country is beginning to become a reality.

We offer a unique blend of fitness instruction with medical oversight from a physiotherapist. With additional instructors we will be able to reach more people, and help more people overcome some of the fear and anxiety caused by ageing bodies that hurt, wobble and fall more often. We will be able to offer useful hints and tips of alternative ways to do things and most importantly help people get and stay strong, keep their heart and lungs working as well as possible and reduce the impact of many illnesses associated with ageing from diabetes to cancers and dementia.

If you believe in helping people to stay healthy and independent regardless of their age then becoming one of our instructors could be the ideal job for you.

Keep Phytt is more than just exercises for older people. It’s an insight into growing old gracefully…..

Mentoring and training are high on our priorities for anyone joining our team.
